ABSTRACT
Objective: To investigate HSV-2 IgG and IgM with elisa in sera of 73 mothers whose pregnancies have been resulted with prematurity (14), postmaturity (1), intrauterin immaturity (1), stillbirth (17), congenital anomaly (14) and abortus (26) and in sera of their babies' cord. Institition: Ankara University Medical School, Department of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology. Material and Method: In this study we have investigated HSV-2 IgG and IgM antibody with elisa in the sera of 73 mothers who had delivery pain and spontan abortus and their babies cord sera. For this purpose HSV-2 IgG and IgM elisa test kits are used. Findings: In mother the ratio of seropositivity of HSV-2 IgG was found 65/73 (89.04%) and the ratio of seropositivity of HSV-2 IgM was found 6/73 (8.22%), in babies' cord sera, the ratio of seropositivity was found 65/73 (89.04%) and 2/73 (2.74%), respectively. Results: The seropositivity of HSV-2 IgM in sera of 2 mothers whose pregnancies resulted with abortus and their fetus was explained with the effect of HSV-2 in the pathology. The presence of HSV-2 IgM in the sera of 4 mothers has shown active infection. The distribution of HSV-2 IgM and IgG has been investigated at the different age groups and from the point of presence of antibodies there was no significant difference between age groups. Meanwhile it was determined that HSV-2 IgG passes through the placenta entirely.
