ABSTRACT
Objective: To evaluate the effects of thyroid function changes on severity of the preeclampsia and on fetal weight.Materials and Methods: Thyroid functions of 70 preeclamptic and 34 normotensive pregnant women were evaluated prospectively. Results: Values of TT3 and FT3, were found to be correlated statistically significant with fetal weight and preterm birth in preeclamptic women; but not in normotensive group. There was no significant difference in the concentrations of thyroid hormones between preeclamptic and normotensive group. Although, there was no significant difference statistically, tiroid hormone concentrations were found to be lower in preeclamptic than normotensive women. Conclusion: There is a correlation between TT3 and FT3 levels with birth weight in the preeclamptic patients.
