ABSTRACT
Objective: The comparison of the therapeutic effectiveness of electrocauterisation and cryotherapy in the treatment of chronic cervicitis. Institution: Gülhane Military Medical Academy, Haydarpaşa Training Hospital, Obsetrics and Gynecology Department. Material and Methods: In this prospective study cervical malignancy was excluded and electrocauterisation was performed on 152 and cryotherapy was performed on 159 patients and follow-up evaluations were done on fourth, eighth and twelveth weeks. Findings: The cure rates were 68.4% and 86.2% after 12 week follow-up evaluation with single electrocauterisation and cryotherapy procedure respectively and cryotherapy was more effective in patients who had lesion diameters more than 3 cm. Results: Both therapeutic procedures were effective in the treatment of chronic cervicitis but it was better to treat patients with cryotherapy who had lesion diameters more than 3 cm because of its better effectiveness and less complications.
