ABSTRACT
Invasive cancer of the cervix has been considered a preventable cancer in the world. Papanicolaou smear combined with a HPV DNA test is a sensitive alternative to colposcopic evaluation for the detection of CIN in women referred for a previous ASCUS or low -grade abnormal Papanicolaou smear. Because of its high sensitivity, this approach could be useful in clinical settings for patients who wish to avoid colposcopic evaluation, or in situations in which patients or physicians wish to identify infection by oncogenic HPV types. The Hybrid Capture System couples the sensitivity and specificity of nucleic acid probes with the simplicity of an enzyme immunoassay. As the utility of HPV DNA detection gains widespread support throughout the medical community, the simple test procedure, minimal hands-on time and expanded HPV type detection of the Hybrid Capture Vira Type Plus HPV DNA Assay provides the clinical laboratory with a clinically relevant, easy-to-perform test.
