ABSTRACT
Tumors of mesentery are very rare and may be cystic ones including hemangioma. Frequently, most of the mesenteric tumors are located in the mesentery of the small intestine and sometimes, they arise in the transverse or sigmoid mesocolon. Hemangiomas are congenital lesions and appear soon after birth and, because of that reason they are frequently seen in the childhood years. The manifestations of mesenteric hemangiomas are few or nonexistent and the tumors are mostly detected during a routine examination. Among the symptomatic patients, rarely some of those present themselves with intestinal obstruction, torsion, hemorrhage or infarction. The symptomatic patients generally are with abdominal distention, moderate pain or vomiting. We describe an unusual case of cavernous mesenteric hemangioma with acute abdomen symptoms and signs due to torsion of the hemangioma in a postmenopausal woman. The differential diagnosis and the diagnostic methods of mesenteric hemangiomas were discussed under the limited literature data.
